An Introduction To Us!

I imagine if you have taken the time to navigate to this page you are probably interested to know a bit more about us and why The Cornish Kitchen began.

It began with a love for delicious, interesting local foods that we would use in our kitchen to feed our family and friends. It then became an idea that we threw about, a what if? Then a desire to share these amazing products, ingredients and food with our neighbours and visitors.

In 2019 we founded Oggies Cornish Kitchen, (“Oggy” meaning pasty in Cornish) a specialty pasty café on the corner of Arwenack St and Hull Lane. There has been a pasty shop in this location for well over 30 years but we have tried to offer our customers a bit more than just a fast paced pasty bakery. We want you to feel at home here. We will certainly satisfy your hunger. And we want to support local growers, keep our carbon footprint low and participate in the circular economy. To do this we have developed a gorgeous and extensive range of vegan and gluten free pasty options, alongside our wide range of more traditional flavours. There is something for everyone here, which is very important as we want all to feel welcome. We serve lovely barista coffee, and locally blended loose-leaf teas and infusions. Of course there are also homemade cakes and traybakes and CREAM TEAS! But pasties are not the only thing Cornwall has to offer. There was so much more our family wanted to share with you. Which is how the Cornish Kitchen was born.

The Cornish Kitchen opened its doors on July 1st 2021. Located in the historic Admiralty buildings on Arwenack St, the deli is a way for us to further share our family’s love of Cornwall and the amazing ingredients that are produced in the South West and some very special things from further afield.

During the day you can find yourself enjoying freshly baked pastries, breakfast bagels, freshly pressed juices, smoothies and locally roasted coffee on our patio after you have filled your shopping basket full of our curated selection of artisanal ingredients, of course.

Lunches are always fresh and seasonal and offer you the chance to sample some of the wonderful ingredients we stock.

Then during the summer months, when the evenings are longer and we are all a bit more sun-kissed and sociable, we stay open later so that you can indulge in a very fine glass of artisanal wine, which you may just decide to take a bottle home of with you. Or you may choose one of our local ciders or beers to have with the tasting platter of our finest charcuterie and cheeses.

We have an in-depth knowledge of all the producers and products on our shelves. We love that most everything has come from within 30miles of us, again helping to support local people and businesses. We love that we are able to introduce you to some of the most amazing ingredients, food and drink that the South West has to offer. It is our pleasure to share a bit of our passion for the products and producers of artisanal ingredients with you.

So, welcome to your neighbourhood delicatessen and pasty café. We are sure you will feel right at home with us.
